History Lessons in Charleston

I spent the better part of two days prospecting in the historic downtown district of Charleston, South Carolina, considered by many to be the cultural capital of the South. While I spent most of my time taking in the different shopping districts along King Street, I did get make some time to explore a little.

The city itself is beautifully preserved, and just walking down the sidewalk felt like a history lesson, with landmarks, 18th century homes, plantations, museums, churches, and the city market. The sheer number of historic sites is astounding, and the hospitality of the many retailers and residents I met on my trip was the embodiment of southern hospitality.

I’m inclined to believe that history is just imagination anyway; constantly re-imagined, re-painted – a testament to the fact that those who live through their imaginations are therefore destined to make history.
