When it comes to making smart money choices, we often trivialize the importance of investing in ourselves. While it may seem responsible and frugal to spend only on the necessities (food and shelter) and bank everything else, smart spending can, and often should, include self spending. So I’m sharing some smart self investment ideas for your own personal “Self-Spend Saturday”! Whether it’s one Saturday a month or one Saturday a season, set aside some time, and some money, to make wise purchases directly related to your own personal development and progress.
Here are some ideas to get you started:
1. Enrol in an online or in-person courses to learn or build on a special skill or talent.
Whether it’s personal development (think public speaking) or a trade skill (think accounting or excel), investing in your education is never a bad idea, and can boost your resume “special skills” section or add some valuable skill sets to your business.
2. Invest in your personal health.
Get a gym membership, buy a round of reiki treatments, get fitted for a new pair of running shoes, or sign up for a 30-day fitness challenge to start working on a goal designed to better your health. When you’re at your best physically, it will make a world of a different in terms of your overall productivity too. It really is a win win.
3. Go shopping for work clothes.
There’s nothing like a brand new outfit to have you walking into the office like the boss chick #prettygirl you are! So go shopping for a few smart pieces to boost your confidence and morale, and let all of your colleagues take note of what it looks like when you dress to impress!
4. Go ahead and treat yourself to a little something frivolous.
Don’t budget yourself into feeling guilty for a little gratuitous spending here and there. Provided everything else is taken care of, why not indulge a little? Whether its a little sorbet or a pretty pair of red bottoms, work within your budget to treat yourself for your all your hard work.
